The Magic Of Thinking Big - Book Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The Magic Of Thinking Big is probably one of the best motivational books ever written. It is first published in 1959 by David Schwartz. More than 4 million copies have been sold. Millions of people throughout the world have improved their lives using the ideas written in this book.

It presents a carefully-designed program for getting the most out of your life. It teaches you how to set your goals high and how to achieve them. This is a book about thinking big and setting some big goals for your life because When you set some big goals and take some actions to achieve them, your confidence level goes up, your income goes up and you feel more relaxed and happier. The small goals do not bring all these differences.

But some time when you find yourself surrounded by troubles and worries, your thinking will shrink in size and you will start thinking small. You will think that setting big goals does not make any difference in your life. By reading and using methods described in this book you will find ways for staying big during good and bad times.

No matter what you do in your life, what is your occupation; you can think big and achieve bigger goals by reading this book. This book will give you useful methods, not empty promises.

1. Believe You Can Succeed And You Will

Success means achievement of a worthy goal. Success may mean different to different people as different people may have different goals. Do you want to become Successful? If you want to become successful, first of all you should figure out what are your goals, What are the things that you want to achieve in your life? Don't think small when setting goals. Set Big Goals!

Every human being wants to become successful. The desire to become successful is the prime desire for most people. Do you want to have the best, this life can deliver. Wishing only to achieve success is not enough, you have to believe that you can succeed and achieve your goals. However when you truly believe you can do it, the how to do it will reveal itself.

How To Develop The Power Of Belief

• You become what you think most of the time. If you think about success and your goals most of the time, You will surely become successful but if you think about failures most of the time that's what you will get most of the time. When you face a difficult situation, think about your goals and say to yourself "I will win", don't say to yourself that "I will probably lose."

• This is magical quote and boosts a lot of confidence in you. Always remind yourself regularly that "I am better than I think I am."

• The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief. Successful people are not superman. They just dream big and have belief in themselves to turn their dreams into reality.

2. Cure Yourself Of Excusitics, The Failure Disease

Have you ever seen a person who blames others for his failure? Whenever you find someone who blames politicians and taxes for his poverty, you must understand that this person is suffering with the disease of making excuses for the failures.

The author calls this disease "Excusitics." All the unsuccessful people have this disease but it is rare to find this disease in the successful people. The more successful the individual, the less inclined he is to make excuses. If you think you too are suffering with the disease of making excuses for your failures then to cure yourself from this disease, Follow the below written tips:

• Do not think that you have a bad health. Do not talk with your friends about your health. Do some health exercise daily.

• If you are not happy with your life then set some goals and make an action plan. Do some hard work to improve your life. Remind yourself regularly that "it is better to wear out than rust out."

• When you see other successful people you think they are more intelligent than you but it is not true. They are just focusing on some of the best things of their life; they are working hard to improve their skills. You can also do the same. Don't underestimate your brain power. Try to focus on few important things.

• You are using less than 10% of your brain power. The more you use your brain, the sharper it will become. Never underestimate your own intelligence and never overestimate the intelligence of others.

• Adopt the good habits and think about only good things. In few days you will have a positive mental attitude. Your attitude is more important than your intelligence.

• Don't think that you are old and can't start your life from Zero. Always look at your present age positively. Think "I am still Young." A person of 40 years of age has 60% of productive life ahead of him.

• This is the law that you must accept if you want to become successful. The law of cause and effect says that anything good or bad that is happening in your life is the result of previous actions. You are responsible for your life. You will reap whatever you are sowing.

3. Build Confidence And Destroy Fear

To build confidence and destroy fear, first of all you have to identify what are your fears. You must recognize your fear to conquer them. For example if you have fear of losing your job, you should improve your working skills and save some money in the bank.

To conquer fear you need to develop your confidence and remember no one is born with confidence. You can develop your confidence by setting some goals and achieving them. You Can Convert Your Fears In Confidence By Taking Following Actions

• If you are in sales business and you fear of losing an important client then work doubly hard to give him better service.

• If you have fear of failing in exams then study hard and get good grades.

• If your appearance is not good, then go to a barbershop or beauty saloon. Shine your shoes. Wear good quality clothes.

• If you are afraid of making wrong investments, Consult with professional advisors, Analyze all the factors then make a decision and stick with it.

Apply These 5 Confidence-Building Techniques -

1) Be a front seater. In every class and seminar, try to sit in the front row. It will boost your confidence and you will understand better what the speaker is explaining.

2) Practice making eye contact. You need to make eye contact with other person to show him that you are confident and honest. If you don't make eye contact with other person it means you are hiding something or you feel inferior.

3) Walk 25% Faster. You can develop confidence by walking 25% faster than your normal speed. When you walk faster other people think that you are confident and you know what you are doing.

4) Practice speaking up. In every condition when you are afraid of speaking, you must speak. The more you speak up, the more you add to your confidence and it will be easier to speak up next time.

5) Smile Big. When you have a big smile on your face it means that you are an important person and you like other people. A big smile will make you feel happier and relax. Try to smile big now and you will feel better.

Final Thoughts On This Book

This book is a very beautifully written with short stories. It is worth ten times more than what you will pay to buy it. This book will be one of the best books you will ever read to achieve success in any area of your life.

Book Review: The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

This book was a highly recommended to me by someone very close to me. Evidently she had determined that I was not at that time living my life very effectively.

It's difficult to admit, but she was right. Therefore I embarked on a journey through this book with an open mind and an eagerness to learn absorb anything I possible could from this book. I managed to plow through it in an a day or too.

The primary reason for that is that most of the book is filler. While the basic concepts are sound, the author spends a gratuitous amount of time hammering the point home. He accomplishes this mainly by sharing stories from her personal life in which he applied the principles to obtain positive results. Some of these stories, such as one in which he relates teaching his young son about responsibility are endearing and entertaining to read. While others, quite frankly, make the author seem impossibly arrogant.

A strong focus of the book is on time management, but I can't say I agree with the authors thoughts on this matter. He present and impractically (and needlessly) complex version of a day-planner, and it is this writers opinion that his justification for why it is superior to any other standard day planner are flimsy at best. Further to that, despite the book having been supposedly revised and updated, this information is horribly out of date in the days of Google calender and the ilk.

On thing I really did like, however, is the authors use of the "time management matix." The matrix is a group of four quadrants which are: important and urgent, important but not urgent, unimportant and urgent, and unimportant and not urgent.

Covey argues that we has humans have great difficult doing anything that is important unless it is also urgent, while at the same time we excel at doing things that are not important and not urgent. An example of the former category would be meetings, deadlines, etc., while examples of the latter are playing games or watching TV.

Consequently, he argues, important but non- urgent activities go by the wayside, such as personal planning and development, relationships, etc.

He has a point, but I don't necessarily agree with his assessment of what activities are time wasters. I think the purpose of life is to enjoy it, and the only truly wasted time is time spent doing things we don't want to do and don't enjoy. Sadly we don't live in a perfect world and out survival depends on us wasting at least some of our time on this earth.

I was also put off with the author's pushing of Christianity throughout the book. The book itself is not sold in the religion section, and it seemed off and unnecessary for the author to share his religion at all. It just wasn't relevant.

Overall I wouldn't go so far as to *not* recommend this book. I can see a lot of people benefiting from it. For me, however, it was derivative, and in the end, kind of boring.

The Limelight is about living life creatively and finding inspiration to do so. It is not restricted to any one narrow focus, and so you will find articles here on topics ranging from money to food to photography, and anything else that contributes to amazing lifestyle design.

Jonathan Timar is a naturally creative person. Creativity is his life's blood. He's an actor and filmmaker, a writer and a photographer. He is also a graduate of broadcasting school. He is and avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction. His favourite novel of all time is Tai-Pan by James Clavell followed closely by Shogun, also by James Clavell.

Psycho Cybernetics Book Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Psycho-Cybernetics is a classical Self-Help book written by Maxwell Maltz in 1960. Most of the current authors and speakers are highly influenced by the wisdom of this book. Most Olympic players have accepted in interviews that they followed the psychological training of this book to perform better and achieve their goals.

Who Is Maxwell Maltz?

Maxwell Maltz was a plastic surgeon, he found an amazing thing about "Self-Image", he found that everyone of us has an self-Image of ourselves and we treat others accordingly. When you change a man's face by plastic surgery, you almost invariably change his personality, his behavior and sometime even his talents and abilities.

But some patients showed no change in personality after surgery, they continued to feel inadequate and inferior. They continued acting as if they still have an ugly face.

What Is "Self-Image"?

The Self-image is the individual's mental and spiritual concept or picture about himself. It includes your beliefs, your abilities and deficiencies. The Self-image defines what you can and cannot do. You can develop your Self-image and thus the development of the Self-image can bring new capabilities, talents and literally the capacity to turn failure into success.

According to this theory, ideas which are inconsistent with our system are rejected and not acted upon by our mind due to our self-created Self-image. Only the ideas which are consistent with the system are accepted. For example if a student has trouble learning math, it is because he has created a Self-image that I don't have a mathematical mind. If you could change students' beliefs about math and teach him some simple methods to solve the math problems. His attitude would change towards that subject and he would start learning math.

According to the survey, there are 35-45 year-old women who are convinced that they look Old even though their appearance is perfectly normal. 90% of the college students are dissatisfied with their appearance. The reason is the Self-image. They have created a false self-image of themselves.

If you want to improve your life, you must know about your self-image, To create a better self-image of yourself, you must know your strengths and weaknesses. You must be honest when evaluating your strengths and weaknesses. Your Self-image must be reasonable approximation of you, Being neither more than you are, nor less than you are.

How The Sub-Conscious Mind Works?

The mind is divided in two parts - conscious mind and sub-conscious. The "Sub-conscious Mind" is a goal-striving servo-mechanism that we all have. It works automatically to achieve goals of success and happiness or unhappiness and failure, depending upon the goals which you yourself set for it.

Once you have set some goals for yourself, your sub-conscious mind will find the ways to achieve them. You can set goals in your "Sub-conscious Mind" only by mental pictures through visualization.

To set your goals in the sub-conscious mind, you must visualize how you would feel after achieving your goals, what you would do, what type of job or business you would be doing and in which city you would be living? The "Sub-conscious Mind" seeks to achieve the mental images or mental pictures which we create by the use of imagination.

To Bring Success And Happiness In Your Life You Need To Do These Two Things-

1. Develop an adequate and realistic "Self-image".

2. Use your "Sub-conscious Mind" to achieve your goals.

Animals cannot select their goals, their goals are pre-set. We all human being has this amazing gift given by god. We have goal-striving device called sub-conscious mind that help us achieve our goals. But it has one problem that it does not know the difference between good and bad. It will give you exactly what you think most of the time whether it is something good or bad.

Sub-Conscious Mind Works Like A Machine

The god has given this power to man to create anything by directing his sub-conscious mind with his imaginations. You have this incredible machine (Sub-Conscious Mind) which will help you to achieve your goals, you just need to learn how to use it. This machine accomplishes its goals by going forward, making mistakes and continually correcting them till it achieves its goals.

Science Can Build Man's Brain

If the scientist want to build a man's brain they would need at least ten billion electronic cells to build a man's brain. These cells would occupy about a half a million cubic feet and several millions of cubic feet would be needed for wiring. Power required to operate it would be one billion watts.

In the future Scientists may be able to build a man's brain but this brain would lack the power of imagination. It would not be able to set goals, an operator would be needed to feed the data and to run it like today's computer.

Infinite Storehouse Of Ideas

This thing that you are going to read is amazing, many great thinker have believed that man's stored information is not limited to its own memories of past experiences, and learned facts but there is one mind common to all individual men.

It means all the brains are connected with one major brains. You have access to get the knowledge and ideas from other people's brain just by staying with them. We all are being literally engineered for success by the god. We just create a low self-image and think that we can not achieve our goals but in fact we all have sub-conscious already installed by goal that is able to achieve any goal. Every human being has access to a power greater than himself.

To Achieve Any Goal Of Your Life You Must Follow These Steps:

1. You must give a well defined goal to your sub-conscious. You should not be confused about what you want.

2. To set your goal in the sub-conscious you must visualize how would you feel once you have achieved your goal. You must act as you have already achieved your goal.

3. You should not care about how your sub-conscious will achieve your goals. You must have full faith that your success mechanism will find ways to achieve its target.

4. Your sub-conscious mind will make some mistakes but don't be afraid. It is the process of sub-conscious mind to achieve its goal by making mistakes and correcting them continually.

5. You must learn to trust your success mechanism to do its work and not "jam it" with doubtful thoughts.

Final Thoughts On This Book

This book will help you to deprogram yourself from self-doubts and negative beliefs. It will show you a clear way to develop your "Self-image" and reprogram yourself for success. I highly recommend this book if you have any goal that you want to achieve in your life.

By reading this book, you will learn how to use the tools that are needed to achieve your goal, these tools you already have but you are not using them. This book will teach you how to use your success-mechanism to achieve whatever you want in your life.

The Lasting Happiness and Success Formula Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Let's get started! To begin with, I want to introduce you to the idea that Joe Rubino will present to you in The Lasting Happiness and Success Formula, the idea is very basic, very easy to grasp but yet hard to reach. Sounds strange that I just pretty much contradicted myself, doesn't it?

It's about self esteem, we all possess the ability to master it. Many of us don't, though. We are lead into a pretty much narrow confidence pattern, well, most of us are. This begins when we're young. We learn how things work and how hard you must work in order to become the best! To become the best, though, everyone tells you that you need the grades and so forth.

Once we grow up and start understanding life a little better, that whole idea of "work and you will succeed" pattern just shatters for many of us - we find ourselves in doubt, we think to ourselves "how am I going to get these types of grades in order to get that education I want? And even if I do, how in the world am I supposed to land that job which I so much want?" That is pretty much the breaking point of many peoples lives. We form a self destructive pattern, well, not as extreme as it might sound but we more or less set our minds to failure mode and that is why many of us, yes, fails.

The Lasting Happiness and Success Formula brings up these matters so that you, yourself can reflect on the matters that are important for you. You can focus on locating your "breaking point" and finding out how you can best argue against the subconscious decision you made that very day you reached your "breaking point".

The Lasting Happiness and Success formula introduces you to several steps and pointers which will in detail describe how you can overcome mental obstacles in your everyday life, how you can boost your confidence and set your mind to success instead of failure, which many of us are set to since that day I earlier in this post mentioned, the "breaking point".

The human brain works in mysterious ways, most of our brainpower is used for the subconscious - and that is exactly why it's so important to understand and locate the most important decisions your subconsciousness is responsible for.

With learning everything in The Lasting Happiness and Success Formula, you'll be well on your way to a more successful life, you might land that job you've always wanted, you might get that girl of your dreams. The opportunities are endless, your only obstacle is your mind! Yes, your own mind can be your enemy unless you understand it!

Book Review Of "Change Your Habits - Change Your Life"

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

If you are one of the many people in this country that suffers from obesity, nicotine addiction or drinking too much then you already know first hand what a bad habit can do to you, your family and your way of life. Of course there are a lot of so-called miracle cures out there but if they really worked then why do people need more than one of them? In any case in the rest of this article I will be doing a review of a book that offers the opportunity of getting past your bad habits and changing them for more positive ones.

Introducing "Change Your Habits - Change Your Life"
I came across this book while perusing the "Advice & Hot-To" section on the Amazon book store. I was looking for information to give to a friend that is having issues losing weight and keeping it off. In my opinion a permanent type of change usually means making a change to lifestyle. In this specific situation I wanted them to come to this realization themselves rather than me offering it. I read some reviews and then settled on four books I thought would suffice. After quickly skimming them I settled on the "Change Your Habits-Change Your Life" one. The main reason was that it seemed to be complete and offered a plan.

Book Summary
The book was written around the idea that change when it is permanent is enacted through six stages. It is written in two parts and comes complete with worksheets, flowcharts and other graphic aids. In the first part it goes into detail for each of the six change stages and provides examples or anecdotes that illustrate the stage being examined in that chapter. In the first part of the book the chapters are each followed by a recap section that has 3-5 points of interest that the reader should keep in mind about that chapter. In the second part of the book the author has provided a daily plan of action complete with worksheets that the reader can use to get rid of a bad habit. There is also a quick starter plan that deals with improving relationships, losing weight, improving finances and improving well-being.

What I Liked
The two things I liked most about the book was the style of writing and the intent to be more of a "how-To" guide versus a "what to do" guide. The author clearly put time and effort into making sure that the reader got a clear explanation of how change worked and then offered a systematic way to actually implement it.

By offering the reader two parts it gives them the choice to delve into learning the reasons behind change when it works or just getting into the detailed action plan that is part of the book. This type of book formatting lends itself to people actually using the information in the book rather than just reading it. It can also be a big time saver for those skimming.

What I Didn't Like
When it came to discussing how to improve relationships, losing weight, improving finances and improving well-being the author gave some good examples of how to use his system of change to implement. But they were brief and I would have liked to have had more anecdotal information for each one. I fully understand that each of these subjects could and probably should be a separate book on their own.

This book has a lot of information in it. I can see the author was trying to include everything they thought was important to the reader on the subject. I think it would have been better served to have a series of smaller reports that were all related. I think this is the reason the author includes a chapter recap and diagrams throughout. To make sure the reader is able to follow everything.

Final Word
The author has done a good job in packaging effective psychological strategies along with an action plan to make it more of a "How-To" guide to making personal changes. If you are looking for some information to get started making a change or if you are looking for the science behind making new year resolutions stick then you will find this a great read.

Next, now that you have taken the time to read the review are you ready to get a copy of one of the best self help books out there? You can also get it directly from Amazon click here.

Personal Development for Smart People by Steve Pavlina - Book Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Title and Author: Personal Development for Smart People by Steve Pavlina

Subtitle: The Conscious Pursuit of Personal Growth

Synopsis of Content:

In Personal Development for Smart People Steve Pavlina looks at personal development and success with an atypical perspective. This new perspective is influenced by some "new age" concepts and by a more philosophical approach than is typically found in many personal development and success books.

First Pavlina discusses what he considers the Fundamental Principles of personal development: Truth, Love, Power, Oneness, Authority, Courage and Intelligence. Each of these is then broken down into subcategories and explained, both on their own and as they related to one another.

The second part of the book seeks to apply those core principles to how we behave. He focuses on Habits, Career, Money, Health, Relationships and Spirituality. In each of these areas he relates back how the core principles in the first part of the book relate to these personal development ideas.

Throughout this book the author challenges the reader to look within and for many this may be a bit uncomfortable. Some of these exercises may even appear strange or even useless, as when he invites the reader to have a conversation with one's pen. Despite the awkwardness of some of these discussions however the introspection called for in this book can lead to a greater understanding of oneself as well as how these principles should apply to the reader.

The author also discusses some of his own challenges and how he went from sitting in a jail cell to becoming successful in several business ventures. He does not really tie his own success story into the things he teaches in the book very well however.

The book is not technical and does not contain many of the "how to" details that self-help books often stress. The book is more about understanding and conceptual development than it is about the nuts and bolts of time management or planning.

As a book that gets you to think about your own personal growth and development it is good. It is not however a straightforward guide to how to become better at anything in particular.

I gave this book an overall rating of "very good" mostly because it does challenge the reader to think at a deeper level than most self-improvement books do.

Readability/Writing Quality:

The writing is clear and easy to follow. There is a fair amount of redundancy in the last half of the book. It is organized in a manner that makes it easy to follow.

Notes on Author:

Steve Pavlina worked in software development and especially gaming software where he achieved significant success. In recent years he moved his focus to personal development with his blog and website including a large message board with over one million entries.

Three Great Ideas You Can Use:

1. Extensive routine is the enemy of intelligence. One should commit to creative thinking and making positive changes in how one lives one's life to realize genuine development.

2. To achieve genuine personal growth you must embrace truth and reject falsehoods.

3. Though it may be ironic, when one feels disconnected from other people the best cure is to intentionally connect with others.

Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus - Book Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Recently I re-discovered this book while browsing through a local op-shop, with enthusiasm I took it to the counter to take home & re-read the beautiful life lessons offered by John Gray. My favourite two chapters without a doubt 'Women are Like Waves' & 'Men Go to Their Caves & Women Talk!'

Women Are Emotional Waves, don't we know it!

John Gray aptly describes women as waves, he says, "When she feels loved her self esteem rises and falls in a wave motion. When she is feeling good, she will reach a peak, but then suddenly her mood may change and her wave crashes down, this crash is temporary. After she reaches the bottom suddenly her mood will shift and she will feel good about herself."

My 'ah ha!' moment arrived while reading this chapter when John states that a women at the bottom of her wave likes to discuss & share her problems, then will begin to rise up to the top of the wave & feel good again. He writes that men misunderstand this positive shift to mean that whatever was bothering her is now completely healed or resolved. As men generally discuss problems to find a resolutions.

Then when I went on to read 'Men Go To Their Caves & Women Talk' a clearer picture began to emerge for me in the huge difference in communicating & problem solving between men & women.

Men Go To Their Caves & Women Talk

"You seem to have gone into a cave, want to about it?"

Doesn't everyone want to talk all the time? Especially when they have a problem? Reality is a funny thing. I didn't realise how much I actually talk until I read this chapter, I thought everyone was the same as me...wow shock!? I realise that I have a large word count requirement. When I had a wisdom tooth removed a sympathetic friend came to visit our normal chit chatter was reduced to a few words here and there, I had so much to say but could not talk!

So it was to my horror when I first read this book to find out that some people especially men like to withdraw to cope with stress & focus on the problem until it is resolved often at the expense or ahead of other responsibilities.

I totally love this book it profoundly challenges my thinking. The tips & lessons to be learned are so helpful when in the workplace, at home, with friends or in situations of conflict.

Think And Grow Rich Book Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Think and Grow Rich is a motivational book written by Napoleon Hill, it was first published in 1937 during the time of great depression. This book has been on the bestseller list from last 74 years. Andrew Carnegie started working as a factory worker, later he emerged as the great industrialist and became one of the richest men in the America.

Andrew Carnegie donated almost all his money to establish libraries, schools and universities. Andrew Carnegie wanted to give a success philosophy to this world so that by following this success philosophy anyone can become rich. He appointed Napoleon Hill for this job, to write a book on success philosophy. Napoleon hill interviewed more than 500 most successful men and women and then figured out what these people do different that make them successful.

"The revolutionary discovery of these 500 interviews is that you have complete control over just one thing in your life and that is your mind."

Human Being have been given this great gift, you have been given mind and you have ability to control your mind. If you can control your mind, you can achieve anything you desire. As Napoleon Hill said "Whatever your mind can conceive and believe, your mind can achieve."

Here Is A Summary Of Some Of The Successes Principles Taught In Think And Grow Rich Book.

01. Desire - The Turning Point Of All Achievement

The first thing required to become successful is desire. Desire is different from merely wishing. A Desire should be well defined, you should write it down on the paper with the exact amount of money and exact date when you want to possess this money.

The six steps taken from this book that will turn your desire into reality:

Write down exact amount of money you desire. For example if it is one million dollar, write down 1 million dollar.Write down exactly what you are ready to give in return to achieve your desired outcome.Write down the exact date when you intend to be in the possession of your desiredCreate a definite plan to achieve your goal and start taking actions.Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.You must read your statement twice daily once in the morning and once before sleeping. Believe and act as you have already achieved your Goal.

02. Faith

The second step to become successful is the Faith. Faith is like a bridge that attaches your soul with the supreme power that has created you and entire world. When you have faith in your ability and in supreme power, all the fears and doubts will go away from your mind.

If you want to take control of your mind, you need Faith. The only difference between successful people and failure is the ability to control their mind with tons of faith. They remain on the road of success despite many short-term failure.

If you want to create Faith you must accept this truth that God has created you and he has given you a beautiful gift that is your mind. You must recognize that by controlling your mind you can achieve anything you want.

03. Auto Suggestion

Auto-suggestion is the self-talk. Auto-suggestion means how you talk with yourself, which kind of words you use while thinking about different situations in your mind. "You have to close your mind from negative and destructive thoughts"

Think and Grow Rich: A Review of a Timeless Classic Book on Success

AppId is over the quota

Back in 1937, Napoleon Hill came out with a book called Think and Grow Rich. Since then, it has sold approximately 70 million copies worldwide in a number of languages. It was revised in 1960 and then later by others with more modern meanings. Still, the original, intact one has some deeper meanings that can be applied into today's world. This makes even more sense because when Hill wrote it, the United States was in the middle of The Great Depression.

"The 'depression' was a blessing in disguise. It reduced the whole world to a new starting point that gives everyone a new opportunity." -Napoleon Hill

Prior to Think & Grow Rich (TGR), Hill had a set of books that came out in 1928 called The Law of Success. This was in 8 volumes and comprised 16 lessons. What he did was to distill that down to what became Think and Grow Rich. It gives the best of his teachings in a simple, yet effective manner that anyone can understand.

After being issued a challenge by Andrew Carnegie, Napoleon Hill set out to interview 500 of the most successful men of his time period over a 20 year time span. He was able to accumulate this wisdom on success and achievement to be able to put it first in The Law of Success and later in TGR. Imagine having the wisdom of Andrew Carnegie and Thomas Edison at your fingertips to apply into your own life.

I was surprised by the sheer number of people who have credited this classic to their success in life. For example, according to sports writer Jim Murray of the Los Angeles Times, the fighter Ken Norton, Sr. read TGR prior to defeating Muhammed Ali in 1973. A great many motivational speakers credit their careers because of the influence of Napoleon Hill and his work.

I still remember when I picked up my first copy in paperback decades ago. It was a revised copy which I earmarked, underlined, wrote on the edges and highlighted. Since then, I was able to acquire a first edition, first printing of Think & Grow Rich as part of my book collection. I still see what words of wisdom that I can apply into my own life every day.

What most people forget when taking in any information and not just this book, is that they have to find ideas within it and apply to their own life. That means to take action. You can't just read and expect miracles to happen. That's plain, dumb thinking. I've seen too many people get caught up the The Law of Attraction stuff that the movie, The Secret, espoused. They falsely believed if all they did was to wish it, that it will come true. Nothing happens without action. Consistent and progressive movement towards a goal is a key to success. Napoleon Hill calls this being persistent.

"There is no substitute for persistence! It cannot be supplanted by any other quality!" -Napoleon Hill

Will this book make you successful? That's up to you. It may not. You may not become a millionaire. Your definition of success will be different than mine or someone else's. Whatever you do in life is simply up to you. Think and Grow Rich is simply a tool box of ideas that will only work when you use them in your life. Not just let them sit around gathering dust. You need to take persistent action to make it happen.
